Our Story
Silkdrive was founded by Patric Sawada (澤田) with a clear vision: to help businesses grow internationally by bridging cultural divides. Across a decade of cross-border campaigns — and, on a personal level, marrying into a Japanese family — Patric saw firsthand how many promising international expansions fail not due to poor products or inadequate funding, but because of cultural misunderstandings and misaligned marketing strategies.
Patric's career started with an e-commerce startup in 2008, followed by a creative marketing agency in 2011. He then worked as a senior consultant for a multinational and as marketing manager at an international IT company (2014), before founding his own agency in 2015, rebranding to Silkdrive in 2018. That path across Luxembourg, Germany, France, and the Netherlands gave him firsthand experience with how marketing needs to adapt when you cross borders.
Today, Silkdrive has helped 50+ companies expand internationally, from running Facebook campaigns across 13 European countries to improving Google Ads performance through cultural adaptation. We execute, advise, and connect businesses with the right specialists for their market.

Patric Sawada (澤田)
Founder & Head of Growth
Patric brings 11+ years of international growth marketing experience spanning Europe and East Asia, with a career built across Luxembourg, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. He offers practical insight that goes beyond surface-level localisation.
As a recognised EU-Japan Centre Expert and Growth Tribe alumnus, Patric combines rigorous experimentation methodology with deep cultural intelligence. He embeds with client teams as a trusted growth advisor, auditing channels, managing agencies, and driving measurable results.
Published on Frankwatching and a regular speaker at EU-Japan Centre webinars, Patric is a thought leader in cross-cultural growth marketing for companies expanding between Europe and East Asia. As an accredited expert with the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, he delivered the “Cross-Cultural Growth Marketing for Japan” webinar through their Market Access programme to Polish, Czech, and Swedish SMEs in 2025.

Silkdrive is the preferred European delivery partner of Diversity Management Institute (Tokyo), founded and led by Takashi Kawatani-sensei since 1989. Kawatani leads the Japan-side curriculum and trains directly on every programme; Silkdrive scopes engagements, contributes the European-side context modules, and runs delivery logistics. The partnership is ongoing and engagement-based.
Kawatani-sensei has trained over 20,000 professionals across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. He is the author of 13 books on global leadership, recipient of the Global HR Excellence Award (World HRD Congress, 2011), and Special Advisor to the Japan Overseas Enterprises Association.
